Dinitrophenol (2, 4-dinitrophenol or DNP)
Like aspirin, the chemical dInitrophenol uncouples oxidative phosphorylation. DNP is illegal as a weight-reducing drug. DNP can easily be purchased on the Internet. DNP poisoning is diagnosed on the basis of high fevers (up to 108°F or 42.2°C) that may disrupt enzyme systems, agitation and yellowish discoloration of skin, mucosa and internal organs. Target populations include bodybuilders, children and other persons who wish to loose weight (PMID 21739343)
