IX.a

Diaphragm/inspiratory muscle weakness/paralysis (w/wo ARF)

Presentation may range from restrictive lung dysfunction to acute respiratory failure. Can be due to noncompetitive myoneuronal presynaptic blockade of acetylcholine release, myasthenia gravis, or myopathy. May cause severe or fatal respiratory failure. May be diffuiculmt to separate from Iaj. See also under IXd, IXj, IXs, and PMID 7628504, 25767924. See also myasthenia gravis under IXr
