Radiation-induced lung injury (RILI)

Radioactive 90Y beads can gain access to the pulmonary circulation via shunting of compound through the liver tumor following prehepatic infusion. The damage from infusional radiation offers distinctive imaging. The opacities are generally disseminated. They tend to stay at some distance of the pleulal surface. Possibly because beads containing beta-emitting 90Y lodge within 40-50 µm diameter arterioles.
